Controls Systems Technician

Key Responsibilities

Duties:

  • Inspect, assess, service, repair and maintain equipment using control or network technologies.
  • Apply electrical, network, PLC and SCADA fault finding techniques to establish cause and enable solutions.
  • Monitor and evaluate the Profibus, Modbus and serial communication links technology.
  • Read, monitor and evaluate the online diagnostics of the PLC system and its network.
  • Conduct and control obsolescence audits of installed technology. Recommend solutions to obsolete technology.
  • Perform program changes to the Programmable Logic Controller (PLC) and the Human Machine Interface (HMI).
  • Set up and monitor PID loops.
  • Calibrate instrument loops for temperature, pressure, level and flow.
  • Participate in the continued development of the current systems.
  • Carry out the I/O testing on the system.
  • Commission control systems on new equipment and at new installations.
  • Repair or replace defective and/or worn parts and components.
  • Liaise with 3rd party vendors associated with hardware, software and networks.
  • Attend daily workshop or site briefings.
  • Generate accurate Engineer Inspection reports of assets and equipment.
  • Log and report information in the maintenance job sheets.

Provide technical advice and assistance to all departments:

  • Liaise within Engineering Department to obtain information to assist the build of new equipment.
  • Liaise with other departments to promote suitable improvements to the process, assets and equipment.
  • Lead staff in simulated training of installed systems.
  • Instruct site based operational staff on the correct use and operation of an asset.
  • Source information from third party representatives as necessary.

Qualifications (E - Essential P - Preferred):

  • HNC/HND or Degree Electrical, Electronic, Systems or Networks Qualification (E)
  • Recognised apprenticeship, training scheme or tertiary education and training (E)
  • Knowledge of PLCs; Mitsubishi, Beckhoff (E)
  • Knowledge of Profibus, Modbus serial (E)
  • BOSIET (P)
  • Current COMPEX Certification (P)
  • 17th Edition Electrical Regs (P)
  • Knowledge of alternative PLCs (P)
  • AutoCad (P)

Experience (E - Essential P - Preferred):

  • Assess, fault find, test and repair installed control and network systems (E)
  • Read and interpret electrical, PID, online diagnostics and PLC program information (E)
  • Setup, monitor and calibrate both instrument and PID loops (E)
  • Calibration, testing of instrumentation (E)
  • Carry out maintenance routines (E)
  • Install and commission (E)
  • Knowledge of plant shutdown systems (E)
  • Working with process equipment / heavy plant machinery (P)
  • Working / inspecting Hazardous Area Equipment (P)
  • Working within the oil & gas, material processing or maritime industries (P)

HSEQ:

  • Follow all TWMA and HSEQ procedures.
  • Address any concerns and taking appropriate actions in conjunction with TWMA procedures.
  • Attending monthly safety meetings with QHSE personnel.

Out of Hours Process Support Assistance:

  • Provide back-up assistance to other TWMA personnel by mobile phone as required.
  • Attend the site in the event of an equipment call off.
  • Report all out of hour's activity to your line managers.
  • Part of on call Rota.

Offshore / Oversees Process Support - supporting offshore operations:

  • Travel oversees to check, service & repair equipment as required.
  • Be prepared to undertake medicals, vaccinations and training as required for offshore/oversees travel.
